This pretty sugar and creamer were probably part of a prized set in an early 20th century home. It was made using the RS Mold 509a (according to Mary Gaston) and features a lovely pink and soft yellow rose décor. They look like Peace roses. They have the RS wreath mark with Poland China above and Made in (German) Poland below.

According to Gaston, this mark was used right after WWII between 1945 and about 1950, often on pieces that were made with older molds. However, there is some disagreement on those dates, given the older molds and decorations used. An extensive discussion of this can be found in Leland and Carol Marples’ R.S. Prussia: The Wreath and the Star on page 165. They argue that the mark may have been used prior to WWI.

SIZE: The creamer is 3 7/8 inches high with a diameter of 2 1/4 inches at the base. The sugar bowl is about 4 5/8 inches tall to the top of the finial and has a diameter of about 2 3/4 inches at the base.

CONDITION: There is a bit of wear on both pieces. The creamer is in overall good condition, with one spot of glaze missing on the top part of one side. Otherwise the glaze and gold trim are in good shape, with just a bit of rubbing of the gold on the top rim an minor rubbing on the wavy line at the top. The sugar bowl has a spot of some type of minor damage that we are having difficulty identifying. There is a line in the glaze that does not go through the porcelain. Along that line are a few tiny chips. This is almost like a bruise; as if something bumped it at some point; above this line on the highest part are two tiny dark marks similar to the line. Please see photos for a close up picture. There is a little bit of glaze rubbing along the wavy line at the top. Otherwise the decals are in very nice condition, as is the gold trim.
