This TPS Jolly Wiggling Snake is another difficult toy to find. William Gallagher in his book, Japanese Toys, rates this toy a 4 out of 5 on the scarcity scale, 5 being the hardest to find. I’d have to agree, only seeing three or four of these in our 20 years of collecting TPS toys. This one actually comes from our own collection.
According to Gallagher, this had a production run of only 12,000 pieces. That’s not very many compared to some other toys. It was introduced around 1960. Wind Jolly Wiggling up and his “head turns left and right and tail moves back and forth as the snake moves in wide circle” (Gallagher). His tongue is on a pivot so it shifts back and forth with head movement.
Size: 5 ½ inches high; 3 ¾ inches wide; 7½ inches long
Condition: This toy is very close to mint with just a couple of scratches here and there. I took it out of our TPS cabinet and straight to the photography room for pictures. This is a spare toy, so don’t worry about selling one of our prized toys! I’m really not a fan of snakes, although I try to avoid them when mowing our fields because they are beneficial to the environment.
But this is not a snake I would avoid!
