There were several things that attracted us to this wonderful set. To start with, we’ve never seen a serving bowl (or is it a center bowl with that interior decoration?) with an under plate. Then there are those beautiful soft lilac clematis blossoms, featured not only on the sides of the bowl but also on the inside, and around the plate rim. Finally, we liked the green luster ribbon on the top rim of the bowl and the rim of the plate. The mold is simple but elegant. The points on the bowl are repeated on the edges of the plate. The bowl is marked with the green R.S. Germany mark; the dish is unmarked. All the way around, this is a beautiful piece of porcelain coming from the Schlegelmilch factory – probably from the 1920s.
SIZE: The bowl has a diameter of 8 3/8”. It is 3 1/4" high when not on the plate. The diameter of the plate is 9 1/2".
CONDITION: We see no cracks or chips on either the bowl or plate. One side of the plate has spots of missing glaze in the green luster rim. The gold trim around the top edge of the bowl, and the green luster has a little rubbing here and there. The floral decals are in excellent condition.
This is truly a beautiful example of R.S. Germany at its best.
