Based on a 1920s Einfalt windup toy from Germany, here is the Japanese version from sometime in the late 1950s or early ‘60s. Wind ‘em up and watch these chickens try to attack each other. The white chicken’s wheels pivot on an axel which causes the chickens to travel all over the place. Almost as if they were dancing.
Size: 6 ½ inches long tail to tail; 4 inches tall at the crown; 2 inches wide at the wheels
Condition: There are some small scratches on the white chicken, not caused by the fighting. It looks like these chickens were “chicken”, not wanting to get hurt because there is almost no damage from making contact with each other. We can’t really call them “fighting” more like “sparring” or “dancing”.
The platforms and wheels are in excellent condition, with some wear on the undercarriage.
This is a fun toy to watch. Unlike many windup toys that get damaged by the nature of the toy design, this toy can be played with easily and you won’t worry (too much) about them actually living up to their name.
