We love figural inkwells, and this is a great one! Molded in the shape of a Scottie dog, this inkwell features painted glass eyes and a tongue sticking out of its mouth, both of which give him a wonderful expression. The fur is realistically molded. The metal collar is hinged and opens to reveal the inkwell in the front part of the dog's body. Above and below the hinge in the back are stamped: Reg'd No. 60786 and Czechoslovakia. This dates to the 1920s.
SIZE: This friendly pup is about 3 1/2" long (from tail to tip of nose), about 1 5/8" wide and 3" tall to the top of his perked ears.
CONDITION: The glass is in excellent condition. We see no chips, flea bites or cracks. The metal is tarnished but has no cracks or dings. It does appear as though the hinge was soldered onto the collar at one time, although it was well done and is not overly noticeable. The hinge is wobbly and the head doesn't fit quite all the way down. This possibly could be fixed with some work on the hinge, but we are unwilling to take the chance of damaging it.
This is a very nice example of early Czechoslovakian glass and would fit into any inkwell or dog lover's collection.
