There is something both dreamlike and very whimsical that drew us to this wonderful plate. We love the somewhat chubby man who gazes contemplatively at the full moon... or is he enjoying the string of colorful lanterns that swing above him?
This plate is hand painted against a rich dark background glaze. It has a nice scalloped edge. It is stamped on the back with Haviland France, which dates this between 1894 and 1931. Our research has not come up with any other dishes in this pattern; maybe it is a one of a kind plate!
SIZE: Diameter is 9 1/4".
CONDITION: There are no chips or cracks. There are a couple of obvious scratches; on is in the black, close to the moon and the other is on the moon. Each is about 1/2" long. Neither scratch goes below the glaze, but they are visible.
This is an unusual and really fun plate that deserves to be displayed on its own. Picture it in your home!
