From the 1940s, here is a little cat tin windup toy made by our most favorite American manufacturer, Chein. Why is Chein our most favorite? Because Chein made so many inexpensive toys that there are still examples that can be found for reasonable prices. This cat is called the "No. 118 Mechanical Creeping Cat." It has metal wheels and a ball between its front paws.
Wind her (no male cat would have a bow!)up and watch it go. No creeping here!
Size: 5 inches long nose to tip of tail; 2 ½ inches high; 2 ½ inches wide
Condition: There are a few scratches here and there, but nothing substantial. The windup works well. The ball does show some wear. According to Jaffe's book, J. Chein & Co., the metal wheeled version was a later version, which is why we state that this is from the 1940s.
