A colorful and hard to find large unmarked majolica jug in the Bird and Cattail pattern produced by Joseph Holdcroft circa 1870. The birds are in high relief and beautifully hand painted on a turquoise alligator skin type ground, the handle is modeled as a figural cattail. Condition is excellent with no chips or cracks and the glaze is bright and shiny. There is fine age crazing and the usual factory glaze skips plus mold and glaze irregularities of antique majolica.
Size approx. 8 3/4" high and 8" between spout and handle.
