SALE Art Deco Beaded Handbag with Sapphire Gemstone Clasp.

Although this very old bag could use some tender loving care, it still has a lot of miles in it for someone, and I just had to have it when I saw it...mostly for the closure! I've sold several very old long faced watches that had the same type of sapphire bead attached to the pin...that's what this looks like is used to close this great old purse. They are attached to some sort of silver tone or pewter rods, and the metal or silver plate frame is very ornate. It has a very Victorian look, although I can't say for sure how old it is. I purchased it from a dealer in Western Kentucky.

There are hundreds upon hundreds of teeny little beads that make up this purse. The background is black, and there is a stem of roses...red and yellow, that go diagonally from top left to bottom right on one side, and bottom left to top right on the other. There are many green beads for the leaves and vines as well.

At one time, there was more fringe at the bottom, but some of it is missing....Still, there are several loops of turquoise and black colored beads that are still attached, and perhaps one could add more back...but not me :) Amazingly, much of the body of the purse/bag is still attached to the frame, but there are places where it needs to be secured.

The inside has a sort of midnight blue colored satiny lining, and no holes. It is secured around the frame with ric-rac binding, but again, needs to be stitched or tacked in a few places.

Finally, there is a metal link chain to carry the purse...or perhaps just to display! I've tried to take many pictures to show you the sapphire closures, metal frame and beads...inside and outside...even in less than perfect condition, I believe this is a wonderful find for someone who loves vintage handbags! The body of the purse itself is 7 1/2" to the top of the sapphire closures...the handle adds app. 5 more inches, and the beaded loops are about 1 3/4" long. I don't find any markings or name anywhere on the bag, but it's lovely! I just noticed as I was looking for a tag, that the chain is attached on alternating sides of the repousse frame.

I am always happy to combine purchases to save you on shipping, so please be sure to let me know if you are interested in other items I have listed. I have 2 other bags from the same dealer...one from France and the other from Czechoslovakia, so please be sure to check back later for those.

Thanks so much for shopping at The Loft on Ruby Lane, and God Bless You! May we honor Him in all we say and do!
