SALE! What a great advertising trade card! The size of a postcard, this trade card comes from H. J. Shank of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and it advertises Stieff Pianos. You could buy grand, square or upright pianos. They were quoted to be "superior to all others in Excellence of Workmanship, Elasticity of Touch, Beauty of Tone and Great Durability, sought for by all persons desiring the Very Best Piano." They won awards in Massachusetts, Philadelphia Centennial in 1876, Paris Expo, and New Orleans Exposition in 1885.
This place also sold Organs, Organs and more Organs, and you could use cash or make easy monthly payments! You could order an illustrated catalog or buy direct from the firm. The picture on the front has a beautiful bird in flight, a rose, and a home on a snowy hillside. At the bottom it reads "Stieff Pianos." I thought that name was synonymous with stuffed animals, but maybe the spelling is different.
This is a real oldie, but in remarkable condition other than the lower right hand corner has torn off, but it's not a large piece that is torn.
