SALE VERY OLD PHOTO AFRICAN AMERICAN LADY IN METAL AND CELLULOID FRAME!
There was no glass over this picture, so it has taken some wear over the years, but I'd say it's probably from either the very early 1900's or before! The black lady is wearing a furry hat, and a high collared dress or blouse that appears to have lots of smocking, some lace, and a ribbon that ties like a bow at the top. She looks a bit sad to me, but it may just be a solemn look that so many of these old photo characters had. I understand they sometimes had to stand or wait a long time for their pictures to be made, thus the tired or not so happy looks :)
This great picture is in the neatest oval frame! At first, I thought it to be a stand up picture, with the metal attached piece acting as an easel. I'm not so sure, however, because it looks like there was a screw at the bottom that perhaps one time fit onto another piece, much like the mirrors on a stand. But if you position the metal easel piece just right, you can make it stand up, especially if leaned against something to steady it upright.
Even though that part is metal, the frame has a different "ring" to it, much like the sound of plastic. Considering the age, I believe the frame may be celluloid. It is still in great shape itself, although the stand up metal piece has paint peeling. The frame is a dark chocolate color, and again, I believe it is celluloid. It measures app. 7 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.
