SALE This is an amazing brooch either from the Victorian or Art Deco Era made of Carved or molded glass inside an Antiqued Brass Oval Frame. The deep red glass cabochon is held inside the frame with 4 brass teeth like prongs, and in the center there is an elongated flower with the glass molded making the design. When I first looked at this lovely old pin, I thought those were little beads surrounded by marcasites, but upon close inspection, it appears to be all glass. The color is a deep wine or blood red, kind of like carnelian but with a richer color in my opinion. It is closed on the back side with the brass covering and fastens with a simple C Clasp. The pin doesn't want to stay fastened, but a friend of mine who wears a lot of Victorian jewelry said she often actually pins it onto a piece of crisp paper between her top and the pin to hold it steady. I also wonder if a jeweler( or the new owner) could just slightly bend the C to hold it in place. I just didn't want to take a chance on hurting it in any way.
As you can see, it still needs a good cleaning, although I was able to get lots of the dust off from when I purchased it. This came from a Western KY Estate Auction, and I was thrilled to be able to purchase it. I know a lot of the Glass pieces were made in Czechoslovakia, but I find no marking on this piece at all. It is just stunning in my opinion and made by a master artist, even though we don't know his/her name. I do believe you will love adding this to your collection of Vintage and Antique Jewelry.
