1945 Hard Board Illustrated for Children The Barnyard Book
SALE Since I can find no mention of Printing dates, I believe this 1945 Children's Book THE BARNYARD BOOK, must be a First Edition. Authored by Clare Weill and Illustrated by Vera Neville, this story of Nonny the Puppy and all the animals in the Barnyard is the sweetest story! As a puppy, all the barnyard animals excuse Nonny for his teasing and pranks that he played, but they grew tired of it, and decided he could no longer get by with all the teasing and the fact that he didn't have jobs to do like they did, and they banned him from coming to the barnyard. They decided to do this after having a meeting of The Grand Order of the Barnyard, and all the animals belonged to it except Nonny. Obviously very sad, Nonny went back home to his mother who was a watchdog, and his father who was a shepherd dog. They tried to cheer him up, but he was very hurt. They had convinced him he had no purpose. One night after spotting a fire started on the straw pile, he realized if it spread, to the barn, all his friends who had turned on him would be burned. You can read the details for yourself, but in the end, Nonny emerges as the Hero for saving them, and is elected President of The Grand Order of the Barnyard, and would lead in the Barnyard Parade!
What a sweet story for children, and it can be used as a tool for teaching the value of each child, and making each one feel so special, just as God made us all! Ok, God isn't mentioned in this book, but He did create us all with a purpose to be discovered. I believe it would also be fitting for an anti-bullying lesson. I know it would be loved by my little nephew and there would be much talk that could be spurred from the good lessons in this book! You won't be disappointed to add it to your child's home library or to your classroom. I believe it might be a favorite!
Condition is actually very good for the age. I purchased this at an antique show in Central KY, and the dealer had a number of children's books from the 1930's and 1940's, and when she bought them, they were all wrapped and covered in side a large box where they had been stored for years. There is no writing in the book, and the wear is mostly to the edges of the book, plus some wrinkling to the back cover. The spine shows wear at the top, but all the pages are still securely attached all the way down. There are no funky smells either. The original price for this book was 25 cents! You won't be disappointed to add this one to your collection of Children's Books.
