SILVER SALE Look at this marvelous Coin Silver Match Safe, also called a Vesta Case or Box, that I was able to purchase at the Nashville Antique shows last week. The Repousse design of flowers with roses and what looks like trumpet lilies all have a very Art Nouveau look. The safe is not engraved or monogrammed, but there is a place on either side where you could personalize it for sure if you wanted to give it as a special gift. This most likely would have been a match safe for ladies.
The striker is at the bottom, and you can see the Coin Silver marking when you raise the lid. I saw one at the show that had the old matches inside, but this one was empty. If you have any of the old ones, they would be great inside this safe. I love the decorative edges, with some ruffling instead of being just a straight sided one. The two side edges as well as the top, are smooth silver, while the raised design is on the flat parts of the safe.
I hate to think about starting another collection, but I must admit that I love many of the Sterling and Coin Silver "smalls," so I won't have any problem displaying this piece until it sells. I think you will love it too, and the condition is great! It is app. 2 5/8" tall, 1 5/8" wide and app. 7/16" deep.
I am always happy to combine purchases to save you on shipping, so please be sure to let me know if you are interested in other items I have listed. I have just returned from two buying trips, so please check back often as I am able to get more goodies listed!
