SALE I was so drawn to this adorable little Composition Doll of a sweet, yet a bit pouty face Black Child from a Southern Illinois Estate. She has jointed arms and legs, and is just wonderful! Her red and white striped at the top and solid bottom dress is sewn so that you can't take it off and on, so I'm guessing it must have been original to this doll. The cute little panties/pantaloons may or may not be original, but they are in great shape.

She has a rich cocoa brown color to her with contrasting painted on black hair, plus black yard and red bows have been added to give her braids a very real look. Her dark black pupils and brown eyes really stan out next to the whites of her eyes, and she has a little pugged nose and tiny mouth with red lips. She doesn't look very happy though, so I couldn't decide if she was sad or just scouting a pouty face.

I see only one place where the composition has split, and I didn't even notice that until I started photographing her jointed arms. The right arm has these splits right above her elbow. All her fingers appear to be present, and really, she's just wonderful. This is an oldie, and was found in a large Victorian home in Marion, Illinois where the owner had MANY collections. There were more little black dolls, but this one was my favorite and looked to be in the very best condition. Her legs won't straighten all the way out, so her length is hard to measure, but I would say depending on her braids vs. her painted on hair, she is app. 10-11" long. With the little braids, she reminds me of what is often referred to as Pickaninnies, which is a term used for little black children, but I didn't know if it was a respectable term, so I didn't want to call her that in the title. In no way would I want to disrespect any child or any race. I hope you will love her like I have, and want to add her to your collection of Composition dolls or Black Americana collectibles.

I am always happy to combine purchases to save you on shipping, so please be sure to let me know if you are interested in other items I have listed.
