SALE Take a look at this beautiful Ecru crochet and tatting baby or child's Christening cap. I know there are probably some people who do this handiwork still, but more and more, tatting in particular seems to be a lost art. This is a splendid example of fine hand-worked stitches.
The top of the cap(maybe some would call a skull cap) has a star design in the very center that fans out between each point of the star. From the circular part of the top of the hat, there are no telling how many fine stitches of tatting to the edges. This Christening cap would also work beautifully for a large doll. It's pretty enough just to display on a hat stand with all your other vintage clothing. There is one short piece of yarn at the top of the cap that probably just needs to be pulled through to the other side, but I didn't want to do anything that might make a pull in any way, so I will leave this up to the new owner. It's just gorgeous, and I don't think you will be disappointed!
I bought this from a dealer who also had several pieces of Victorian undergarments, so I wondered if perhaps this might have come from the same estate.
