SALE "THE DREAM" PRE-WORLD WARi SOLDIERS DREAMING OF IMPENDING BATTLE!
This wonderful historical War/Soldier postcard, entitled "The Dream" is a very early one, either beginning of 1900's or perhaps late 1800's. The postcard required a halfpenny stamp, and the cost was raised during World War I, so I believe this may be earlier, possibly a French War, although the hats of the soldiers sleeping are a bit like Confederate hats. I am sorry not to be able to identify the war, but this is a very thought-provoking message. As the soldiers lie asleep with weapons by their side, as well as some sleeping dogs that are with them, they are dreaming of the battle either of the day, or perhaps the next one they are to face.
I would imagine this is a typical dream that any soldier from any war might have had, or in fact, still have as they serve our country even now. Such young men these are defending their country, boys forced to grow up so fast.
The marking on this unused postcard has a "Misch & Co.'s World Galleries Series No. 1079(29888). It was printed in Saxony, where the Tuck postcards were printed as well. There is some minor wear to the corners, but for a war postcard well over 100 years old, it's in pretty amazing condition! It is being preserved in this hard plastic mailer that I will send with it. More than just a postcard.....it's a moment in history!
