SPRING SALE PEEK, FREAN & CO. LONDON YOUNG GIRL BISCUIT TIN! What a beautiful young girl featured on this early biscuit tin by Peek, Frean & Co. LTD of London, England. The picture reminds me of some of the early 1900's postcards I have been selling. She had simple wavy curls with bangs, wears a read coat, and a lacy blouse with ruffled sleeve cuffs and matching scarf tied so gently around her neck. Her dark eyes match her brown hair, and she has a most simple, childlike smile as she poses. I tried to find this one online to estimate a date, but was unsuccessful. However, I did see where Peek, Frean & Co. LTD came about 1901. (Before that, it may have not had LTD), as in another place I saw 1857 as a starting time.
The title under her picture is "Le Comte D Espagnac" plus what I believe is a name...Vigee Le Brun. There are some skips to the paint and a small ding here and there, but actually this tin is in very, very good condition. There's so much history exposed when you look at these old biscuit tins, and this one is just beautiful! The back is marked appropriately, so be sure to take a look at all the pictures. Under the seal it says, "By appointment to the late King George VI ...Biscuit and Vita Weat...Crispbread Manufacturers." Size is app. 8 1/2" x 8 1/2".
