Sale for Large Metal Jewelry Casket. What a wonderful jewelry casket this one is! I have had these old jewelry cases in many shapes and sizes, with all different kinds of designs from Repousse to very plain ones. This would probably fall right in the middle.
Oval in shape, this is a rather large jewelry coffin, measuring app. 5 1/2" long, nearly 4" wide, app. 5 1/4" tall with the lid closed, and app. 7" with the lid open. The bottom part is 3 1/2" deep, so you can see that the lid is domed adding a real look of a coffin.
The inside has a beautiful red velvet lining that is pleated around the top edge...in fact, the pleating goes all the way around the sides and down to the bottom.
I am calling this silver tone metal, since I am not sure of the metal content, although it may be silver plated. Over the years it has darkened so that it almost has a pewter look to it. You can see the difference if you look on the top, where a long piece of tape has been for many years holding a price tag. I found it on a treasure hunt in Southern Illinois in one of those shops where it looks like it may be all yard sale items....but then you find something really neat like this piece!
The design is fancy enough to suit the tastes of those who love repousse, and yet simple and elegant enough to suit my tastes more too. On either side, there's a large oval medallion looking design, with what reminds me of laurel wreath vines, but roses are handing at the bottom of the vines that drape all around the piece. In addition, all the outer edges have their own design, including the top of the lid...plus the very top almost looks similar to the medallion I mentioned on the sides, only larger with a different design that almost looks like flying birds.
This is a heavy metal jewelry casket, and it is in excellent condition...it just needs to be polished if you like a high finish, or otherwise, just enjoy the natural patina already present. I do not think you will be disappointed to own this one! I sold a very small one that was the same pattern as this, so perhaps you were the buyer and would like to have a matching jewelry box.
I am always happy to combine purchases to save you on shipping, so please be sure to let me know if you are interested in other items I have listed. I have several different jewelry caskets in my shop, so you may want to take a look.
Thanks so much for shopping with me, and God Bless You! May we honor Him in all we say and do!
