Fabulous set of ten identical Limoges dinner plates, hand painted with pink, purple, and yellow mums, green leaves, and gold lattice. The plates measure 8 1/2" in diameter and all are in excellent condition, I find no chips or cracks or loss of gold. Several of the plates have some wear to one of the small purple buds as you would expect from dinner plates that were used. The plates all have gold scalloped rims and make an exquisite table setting. Marked with a ship in a wreath with Rouen and R. Briggs Co. Boston, factory marked only with inventory numbers. Richard Briggs imported high end merchandise for his exclusive Boston store and contracted with Limoges companies to paint his own designs. Briggs favored Charles Ahrenfeldt blanks although he contracted with other notable Limoges companies as well, often gilding over factory marks so only his trademark was visible. Briggs contracted with Ahrenfeldt and other Limoges factories so his designs could not be sold in Europe and were only available through his exclusive Boston store. Rouen is a region in France known for it's exquisite soft paste porcelain manufactured during the 1600's, and I believe Briggs designed the Rouen trademark to highlight his line of highest quality (hard paste) porcelain.
