Beautiful porcelain covered box, hand painted with pink and yellow flowers and gold gilded leaves and stems. The mold is reminiscent of a beehive, with molded swirls around the lid and box. The artist has used a generous amount of gold to embellish the leaves and flowers and added sponged gold flowers all around the lid and box, and a gold button top on the lid. The Aesthetic style painting is very well done, and both the lid and the box are numbered with a 1., indicating that the lid was made especially to fit the box. This piece stands 2 7/8" tall and measures 3" in diameter, and is in excellent condition with no damage or losses and no wear to the painting or to the gold. It is marked with a crown over a circle and Carlsbad. I have not been able to identify the mark and they may have gone out of business a long time ago. There isn't a country of origin marked on the piece but I believe it to be European. Circa 1880.
