Sumptuous Victorian porcelain dresser or powder puff box. Completely hand painted with gorgeous pansies in lavender, yellow, and purple, with gold painted raised enamel lattice and scrolls. Professionally painted, this porcelain box has the artist's mark in gold on the bottom. Likely a French Limoges mold, the artist's mark insured the artist would be paid for his work. Sponged russet highlights are painted around the rims of the lid and box, with leafy raised gold scrolls around the box and on the lid. Beautiful gold painted lattice work accents the lid, and gold bands ring the lid, rim of the base, and the bottom of the box. The background is painted a soft creamy ivory in a matte finish, perfect for showcasing the beautiful pansies. Excellent condition with no damage or losses and just a hint of wear to the gold around the lid rim from 100 years of use. The box measures 6" in diameter and stands 2 3/4" tall. Circa1890, a fine example of Victorian professionally painted artistry.
