Beautiful antique sugar basket in ornate gilt metal and cranberry glass. The bowl is blown glass in a cranberry/amethyst color, filled with tiny bubbles. The gilt metal cage is footed, with three small ball and claw gilt feet and an ornate fret work of flowers and flourishes. The handle is formed after a gold braid. The piece dates to the last quarter of the nineteenth century and is in very good condition, retaining an exquisite patinated gold finish. The cranberry bowl has a small ding inside the glass, pictured at 12:00 in the photo of the bowl by itself. This is not at all visible when the bowl is nestled inside the cage. Stands 6' tall and 6" wide overall. The bowl is 4 1/2" in diameter.
