More from Antique Oyster Plates & Treasures
RARE! Another oyster plate from my personal collection.
Patented by J.W. Boteler June 16,1874 (as seen in the US Patent Office in Washington, DC) His design was the first patent in the US for an oyster plate design (patent number 7491). These oyster plates were manufactured by Haviland & Co,. of Limoges France, for Boteler.
Having four white oyster shaped wells with round center sauce well and handle with gilded accents
The rare LAVENDER colored ground set this Boteler apart from all others (my opinion)
Marked appropriately ... as depicted on page 59 (bottom) of Karnitz's Book on Oyster Plates
Mint condition with NO wear (even on the gilding accents) 8.50" top to bottom
A real treasure for the serious oyster plate collector!
