A black transfer Staffordshire Child’s Mug from the Dr. Franklin’s Maxims Series, c. 1840. This Maxim talks about Sloth and being industrious:
Sloth like rust consumes
Faster than labour wears
While the used key is always bright.
God helps them that help themselves,
Lost time is never found again.

The mug includes 2 images, one of an industrious lad working and the other of another lounging by a lake. This mug is 2 5/8” in diameter at the top (3” diameter at the base) and is 2 7/8” tall. It is in very fine condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, etc. Nice pearlware glaze. No maker’s markings.
