Volkmar Pottery, located in New York (Brooklyn) produced a series of historical plaques (large plates, essentially, with holes drilled in the foot rim so they could be hung on the wall). Most of the views involved George Washington. This example shows Washington’s Home at Mt. Vernon, Virginia. The pottery plaque dates c. 1900. It is almost 11 ½” in diameter. Underglaze blue decoration with simple blue bands on the border. Impressed “Volkmar” with a rectangular stamp on the back. This example is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, lines, etc. American Art Pottery at its best.
