A small (9 ¾”) English Salt Glaze Platter with molded rim. The platter is 18th century, dating c. 1775 (possibly earlier). It measures 9 ¾” x 7 ¾” and has a 1 ½” rim decorated with molded basket weave, swags and lattice-work flowers. There are no makers markings, and a flat bottom without a foot rim. It is in excellent condition: no cracks, lines, restorations, etc. Only a tiny (between 1/16” and 1/8”) chip on the edge at about 2 o’clock, and a few widely scattered and very small brownish spots on the rim, which are probably the result of kiln firing or impurities in the biscuit. The size and the condition, to go along with the age, make this a very special piece.
