A rare Stoneware Log Cabin Bank from the 1840 Presidential Campaign of William Henry Harrison. The finely molded and glazed piece shows the log cabin with the cider barrel near the door. The bank (slot on the bottom – and no, there are no gold coins inside!) has a mottled brown and tan glaze and measures 3 ¼” x 2 ½” x 3” (top of the chimneys). Apparently this bank came in several sizes, this one being the smallest size. There is some incised writing on the base that I think reads “June 11” – perhaps the date it was made. The bank is in excellent condition! There are no chips, cracks, breaks, etc. It probably was never used, and the glaze is strong and shiny. A rare and desirable – not to mention hard-to-find—stoneware bank.
