An English Creamware Motto Mug, c. 1800-1810, with a wonderfully glib printed in black motto: “More Friends And Less Need of them.” Translation: the wealthier you are, but more friends you have, but you really don’t need them! The mug has this printed saying in a floral wreath. It is 2 ¾” in diameter and 3 ½” tall. There are no maker’s marks. The mug is in very fine condition: clean (and usable!), with only a 1/8” edge chip that is mostly on the inside of the top edge.
