A rare and very desirable American Historical Staffordshire Plate depicting the Court House, Baltimore, by Henshall & Co, c. 1825-1830. The 8 3/8” plate is part of the Fruit and Flower Border Series. It shows the Court House dwarfing bystanders and carriages and is surrounded by an elegant border of flowers and fruits. The plate is marked with a blue printed cartouche: “Court House, Baltimore.”
Except for a very well done edge repair (at about 10 o’clock – see close-up photo), the plate is in very nice condition: crisp transfer, good blue color and shiny glaze. The restoration runs about 1” along the edge and does not appear to have gone very far into the plate.
Dark blue views of Baltimore are hard to find, making this a nice plate to ad to your collection.
