A late19th century Child’s Staffordshire Alphabet Plate showing 3 boys playing ball. The ball is small and I would love to think they are playing catch with a baseball, but it is really hard to say exactly what they are doing. The other interesting part of this plate is the fact that it has a maker’s mark (Powell and Bishop in a faintly impressed oval on the back); finding ABC plates with maker’s marks is very unusual. The plate has an embossed rim with the letters. It is 5” in diameter (a good size for an Oreo with a cup of hot chocolate!), and in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, lines, etc.
