A large (4 ½” diameter) dark blue Historical Staffordshire Cup Plate from the French Series by Enoch Wood & Sons, c. 1830. The view on this cup plate shows a stone bridge with one arch. The border includes grape vines and grape clusters, which dangle down into the view. Other views in the French Series relate to General Marquis Lafayette and therefore, the entire series is considered to have American interest. While not an uncommon view, the Stone Bridge is usually found on a smaller (3 ½” or so) variety of cup plate; having it in this larger size makes it more desirable. It is stamped “Wood” with an impressed mark.
The cup plate is in excellent condition: dark blue color and crisp transfer (not always the case with this series). There are no chips, cracks, lines or restorations.
