A very delicately potted English (probably) creamware basket with lobed and ribbed sides, a rope-twisted handle and rare puce (raspberry) and green enamel highlights on the top and bottom edges and the handle. These baskets were probably Strawberry Baskets and make very elegant serving bowls. This one is 6” x 4 ¾” x 2 ¾” high (5 ½” to the top of the handle). It is in very fine condition: there are no chips, but there is a restoration where one side of the handle joins the body of the basket. This restoration is only noticeable from the inside; the exterior is clean and the enamel highlights without flaking. There may also be a line in the handle: see the last picture for a close-up of the restored area and the possible line in the handle. The puce color (some would prefer to call it raspberry) is quite handsome.
