A 9 ½” English Creamware Dinner Plate, featuring a 3 mast sailing ship flying the American flag. This plate was made for the American market by an English pottery after the War of 1812. There are polychrome details (nice strong colors), a border that includes sprigs of flowers (several different kinds) and a scalloped edge. There are no makers marks on the plate and these, apparently, were made by several different potteries of the period, probably around Liverpool.
The plate is in very fine condition. There are no cracks, lines or restorations. The only flaws are several small edge chips, the largest being about ¼” at 12:00. The underglaze polychrome decoration over the black transfer is not flaking.
