A large and very colorful Harlequin Jug from the late 19th century. Made by Elsmore and Forster, the jug has 2 images of the Harlequin (if this guy wasn’t the model for the Joker in the Batman comics, I don’t know what was) on either side of the spout and smaller transfers of animals, including a horse, a charing buffalo, and elephant, monkey, goat and chickens. The jug is 7” to the top of the handle and the handle to spout distance is almost 10”. There is a large Elsmore and Forster printed mark on the bottom and the top edge and the handle are decorated with black transfer swags.
The jug is in very fine condition. There has been some excellent, professional restoration to the handle, but no other part of the jug has been touched and there are no chips, cracks, lines, etc. A unique and desirable piece.
