A very nice child’s tin ABC Plate w/ an embossed image of Jumbo the Elephant in the center. The plate dates c. 1880 (Jumbo died in 1885 in a train accident in Ontario, in case you ever plan to appear on Jeopardy). It is 5 ½” in diameter and in addition to having the image of Jumbo in the plate’s center, the alphabet is embossed around the edge. The plate is in good condition: there are no holes, cracks or breaks, and denting is shallow and what is to be expected from normal use, not abuse. The letters are not as crisply embossed as you might like to find, nor is the image of Jumbo, but given the plate’s rarity and appeal to both Kid’s plate collectors and Circus memorabilia collectors, it is more than acceptable. Any surface oxidation that shows on the photos is the digital camera exaggerating very light surface oxidation.
