A Merganser Decoy w/ carved crest and glass eyes, dating from the early to mid 20th century. Working repaint on the body; the head might well be original surface. 15 ½" from tip of the beak to the tail; 5 ½" high. Possibly Canadian in origin. The bird's head is turned slightly to the right, making the decoy extremely attractive. Fine to very fine condition: there are some shot marks in the body (the head seems to have been missed), paint rubbing , some flaking around the neck, and a couple of very slight age splits, one on the bottom and one on the left side near the tail. An honest working decoy of a very desirable species.
