A tiny Staffordshire toy plate titled "Indian Chiefs" by John Thomson (Annfield Pottery), dating c. 1850. The black transfer on this 2 7/8" diameter plate show 2 Native Americans. It is part of a series of toy plates featuring the California Gold Rush. The plate has a molded flower border and a very narrow beaded rim. There is an impressed mark, but it is illegible.
The plate is in good condition: clean with a strong transfer. There is a tiny edge flick at about 11 o'clock and a faint ¾" hairline in from the edge at about 11:30. No other chips, cracks or lines. Given how delicate the plate is, I find it amazing that it has survived at all.
