A dark blue Staffordshire plate, 8 5/8" in diameter, with a wonderful country image entitled "Pastoral Scene" by Edward & George Phillips of Longport, c. 1830. The transfer shows a mans playing a flute (the Transferware Collectors Club Transferware and Source Print Database calls it a flageolet, a woodwind instrument in the flute family), with a woman and child sitting nearby and sheep eating out of the woman's hands. The border consists of numerous types of flowers. The plate is not marked.
This plate is in excellent condition: dark color and no chips, cracks, lines, etc. Utensil marks are at a minimum and you have to hold the plate at an angle to the light to be able to see them.
