A very nice dark blue American Historical Staffordshire 7 ¾" salad plate in the important and popular Landing of Lafayette at Castle Garden, NY pattern by Clews, c. 1825. The impressed Clews crown mark is on the back. The smaller plates in this pattern are much harder to find than the dinner or luncheon plates and this little gem would fill out a place setting extremely nicely. The color is dark blue and the transfer crisp and well-defined (not always the case with this pattern). The glaze is bright and shiny and there are no chips, cracks, lines or repairs.
