A miniature Staffordshire Pratt Ware Lion, dating c. 1790, perhaps a bit earlier. These little figures were most likely made as toys for little children, so you can imagine how many have survived. This stately fellow, with red-orange mane, almost a pink roan body and wonderful facial features is about 3 ¼" x 1 ½" (at the base) and sits about 3" tall. He is hollow (with more glaze inside than you usually see) and is in very fine condition (probably excellent condition considering the species): there are no crack, breaks or repairs, only a nick on his nose, a rubbed spot on his head at the right ear and some very minor enamel flaking on the green-painted base. A wonderful creature that just makes you want to smile, despite his threatening, painted claws!
