Ridgeway’s Gaudy Willow Pattern (a colorful variant on the traditional and ever popular Blue Willow Pattern) was very popular in the early years of the 20th century. This rare and unusual form is a covered Cheese Dish complete with its lid and undertray. The Willow Pattern has been colored in dark blue (with gold highlights), green, shades of rose and tan; the tray has a narrow border in the same colors. The dish (measurements of the tray) is 8 ¼” x 6 ¼” and at the high end, the cover sits 4 ¼” off the table. 2 vents under the handle and the Ridgeway’s England diamond mark printed on the bottom of the tray; stickers indicating it was from the Zeller Collection are also attached (note: Loren Zeller was long-time President of the Transferware Collectors Club and a portion of his important collection of Willow was offered at Skinner’s in Massachusetts earlier this year).

The cheese dish (both pieces) is in very fine condition: no chips, cracks, lines or restorations. There are a few light spots on the surface of the tray and some very slight rubbing on the bottom edge of the cover. A rare and unusual piece dating c. 1915.
