Offered today is a magnificent pair of upcycled clip back earrings from the Czech company, signed Bijoux MG. These earrings are 2 3/8" long and made of sparkling clear, purple and aurora borealis rhinestones in gold-tone metal, all in excellent condition.
Bijoux M.G. was a manufacturer of large, outstanding runway type pieces originating from Czechoslovakia. Not much else was known about this mysterious company until very recently, but what is known is that they have made stunning pieces using flawless rhinestones from Jablonec. There are two outstanding features of Bijoux M.G. pieces: the back of these pieces are heavily soldered but not plated; and that their pieces always signed with an oval plaque with Bijoux M.G. in capitals and a figure of a gem. Now I find that more information has been found on this company as follows:
All of the stones are high end Czech glass circa 1940's foil back stones and the metal settings are 1940's metal settings. A company named Bijoux MG in Czechoslovakia appears to have bought the contents of a jewelry manufacturing warehouse and combined unmade strands of vintage metal and stones. They do not 'plate' any of the backs on these pieces so you can see that all of the metal and stones are vintage. It is all vintage materials. They then add their 'new' Bijoux MG name tag to the back. So everything on these pieces are authentic vintage Czech glass stones and metal settings circa 1940's/50's. The only thing new on these pieces are the Bijoux MG name tag, so I believe ti is best regarded as "upcycled" and I will list it in that category.
