This incredible antique early 1900's purse is hand-crocheted of cotton yarn with the most beautiful iridescent carnival glass beads in marigold and green stripes. There is a big looped tassel at the bottom in marigold. It measures 5 1/2" long without the tassel, and 7" long including the tassel. It has a drawstring at the top which is also crocheted out of the same cotton yarn as the bag's interior. It is in pristine condition with no wear or damage of any type. It was stored perfectly and looks like it was never used.
The earliest beaded bag was crocheted or knitted in this drawstring style called a reticule, which also became known as an "indispensable" because it developed a universal popularity very quickly. It was so popular that it was a "must" for fashionable ladies in 19th century Europe and the US.
