Antique 18k Gold & Diamond Victorian Mourning Heart Locket with Tintype
From a local Scranton, Pennsylvania estate - This rare antique Victorian 1890's solid 18k yellow gold heart-shaped mourning locket is engraved inside with the name of the deceased husband, Edgar C. Connell, his birth year plus year of death, 1858-1891, his name, and his tinted tintype photo. On the back is the widow's name, Natalie G. Connell. The locket is 1 1/8" tall and was carefully acid-tested as 18k gold. On the front is an exquisite diamond with an old mine cut and a most unusual shape - call it a rounded square, or an oval with corners - I show it in a close-up photo so you can see that wonderful shape and cut. We did not remove it so the weight, color, and clarity are approximate: 1/2 carat, SI2 Clarity, HI Color. The total weight of the locket is 8.8 grams, 1 1/8" long not counting the bail ring, and in excellent condition.
