Sassy, sultry, sexy . . .
These are some of the vibes that this pair of jeweled snake hoop earrings by Kenneth Jay Lane exudes.
There's more, like sensational or stupendous — maybe you can think of others.
One thing that this pair of famous earrings is NOT is boring. We'd even venture to say that this pair would turn heads anywhere.
Our pair, from the 1990s, showcases jeweled snake or cobra heads and a bit of their bodies, encrusted with faux gemstones in shades of topaz and clear hues, and against gilt metal backdrop.
Lane's pieces depicting the snake or cobra motif are among his earliest, most popular and famous. The designer's first snake designs were made when he started creating costume jewelry in the 1960s. He ha iterated and "reimagined" the theme every decade since.
Personally, we can never resist KJL's snakes, be these bangles, necklaces, brooches or earrings. We've owned quite a few of these from all eras. Aside from these earrings, we still have one early K.J.L. bypass bangle-watch listed in the store (see 0521-SCH1055).
Our earrings echo the original design's faux gemstone-encrusted look. Each of our snakes is inset all over with crystals simulated dark and golden topaz stones. Its eyes are faux diamond crystals.
Technically, what's depicted is a cobra, as its head is bigger than the rest of its single coiled body.
The earrings are about 1 1/2" tall (diameter) and the widest portion, the heads, are about 1/2" wide.
Our earrings have posts, for pierced ears. These are marked ©KJL on the inside portion of the hoops.
In excellent condition, with little visible wear. All the crystals are flashy and glittery, and the goldtone is intact, with a nice hue.
