This Antique Bronze plaque depicts the German poet and freedoms fighter Theodor Koerner (Napoleonic War) as pictured by the German sculptor Ernst Herter (1846–1917) who also created the "Heinrich Heine Fountain" in the Bronx, NY. The plaque is signed & dated on the front "Herter 1913". The German words above the arch translate to: "The people rise up, the storm begins". The short life of Theodor Koerner makes for fascinating reading. I will include some print-outs in both English & German.
The plaque is in excellent condition. Someone tried polishing it which was pointless since the original lacquer coating is still present. 9.75"h x 7.25"w
