Victorian Engraving Countess of Falmouth Hand-tinted - Ornate Frame
This 1838 engraving of Anne Frances Bankes, the Countess of Falmouth (1789-1864) by William Henry Egleton (1833 - 1862) after a painting by Alfred Edward Chalon (1780-1860) shows this great beauty at the age of 49 if my math is correct. According to the lengthy hand written note on the reverse it was hand-tinted in 1940 by a person named but too difficult for me to decipher. It certainly is a dead wringer for a Mezzo Tint. If it was hand-colored then it must have been framed shortly thereafter. The gorgeous gilded frame is in excellent condition with only very minor losses to 3 tips. The engraving is flawless. Its size is 8 1/4" x 6" (21 x 15.4 cm). The overall size is 12 1/4" x 9 1/2" (31.2 x 24.2 cm). FREE SHIPPING
