Brilliant, pure & vibrant colors! Gorgeous naturalistic ferns, grapes & vines plus white Anemones decorate both sides of this English Garden Pot, each side being somewhat different. The brown barrel background is a typical motif found in Victorian Majolica designs. All this is contrasted by 2 gargoyle handles scary enough to ward off any evil doer contemplating poisoning the flowers within. A rich clear turquoise common to higher quality majolica was used for the interior. Unmarked but my guess is that it was produced by the Thomas Forester pottery which ceased the production of Majolica in 1888. None of their enormous majolica output was marked. See Karmason/Stacke p 109. The underplate is not original to the pot, I had it for some time until one day I thought they might make a good pairing and so they did. The Jardiniere never had an underplate to my knowledge there being no drainage hole. The condition of both is very good with some restoration to one of the pointy leaves (see close-up photo) and a short hairline to the underplate which is also unmarked.
