The Coat of Arms shown on this fanciful 1910 Wedgwood plate pre-dates the official version that was approved on Nov. 21st 1921 for the Dominion of Canada. Here we have the Beaver, a Canadian Icon, chewing on Maple Branches, the Maple Leaf being Canada's National Symbol. Right on, Bucky, go for it!! All sorts of other weird and wonderful creatures and plants are sharing the central cartouche. A riot! This plate is part of a series produced by the Wedgwood Company, England. It is known as the Edwardian Heraldic pattern. They came in an endless variety shining a spot light on the Canadian Provinces and towns. They were transfer printed and enameled by hand. This plate is in fine condition, no chips or cracks. A tiny bid of orange enamel has flaked off. 10" across.
